Pine Island / Matlacha

Around the Gulf of Mexico, on the west coast of Florida, lies the small island of Pine Island. From north to south, Pine Island is 18 miles (11.25 km) long, at its widest point it is only two miles (1.25 km) wide. Pine Island is accessible by car from the mainland. If you want to visit the island, take road 78 from Fort Myers over a bridge to the community Matlacha, which is located on a small island, and then again over a bridge to Pine Island.

Many arts and crafts shops have set up shop in Matlacha. The beautiful little colorful houses exude a typical Caribbean flair.
